White As Snow! Sin Project – Week 3

Image result for picture of running from temptation

This past week I worked on my anger.  I admit I am a very angry person at times and lose my temper.  One thing I have noticed is that if I admit my wrongs and ask for forgiveness then God has something to work with.  I have to admit I have a problem before I can change it.  By recognizing my sinful nature God is able to change my heart and I am able to change my behavior.  What a weight off my shoulders!  Sometime in my sin I need to see a counselor, and I do if I need to.  There is no reason for us to live in sin.  It is a heavy, yucky, gross burden and it brings us down.  I can not be who God intended me to be if I give into the temptation of sin.  Do not let the knock at the door of temptation hang out in your heart or mind!  Or you will sin.  Do not let your feelings make your choices.  Ask for help and forgiveness.  Be who God created you to be.  But above all else guard your heart!!  For your heart will determine your choices.  Flee from temptation and use the words of the Bible to resist temptation.  This is how Jesus resisted temptation.  Temptation is not sin but if you give in, it becomes sin.

Romans 7:21-25

“I have discovered this principle of life-that when I want to do what is right, I inevitable do what is wrong.  I love God’s law with all my heart.  But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind.  This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still with me.  Oh, what a miserable person I am!  Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?  Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.  So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.”

Romans 6:12  Do not let sin control the way you live do not give in to sinful desires.

Some of you may not appreciate this style of music but I like the message.  And some of young people in your life really like this style of music so share it with them.

It’s time to make war!!!

The next 5 sins to think about getting rid of in your life for this week.

11.  Arguing

Proverbs 17:14 Starting a quarrel is like opening a floodgate, so stop before a dispute breaks out.

Proverbs 18:6 The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating.

Titus 3:9  But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.

2 Timothy 2:23-26  Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.

12.  Arrogance (Swellings) (Proud)

Mark 7:22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.

Isaiah 2:17 The arrogance of man will be brought low
    and human pride humbled;
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day

Romans 1:30 They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents.

This is how God will deal with the arrogant.

Isaiah  13:11  I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.

Do not worry about the arrogant people who think they are better than others God will deal with them. The Bible also talks about those who are religious and think they are better than others. They are false apostles.   We are to be righteous but we are not to brag about it or make others feel less than.  We are to always be humble.

13. Ashamed, hiding your light for Jesus

Matthew 5:14-16  “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Luke 9:26  Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

Romans 10:11  As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

14.  Ashamed of Jesus and His words

Mark 8:38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

If you are ashamed of Jesus and His words remember Romans 10:11.  “Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.”  NEVER!!!!

15. Assault

Exodus 21: 18-19  18 “If people quarrel and one person hits another with a stone or with their fist[a] and the victim does not die but is confined to bed, 19 the one who struck the blow will not be held liable if the other can get up and walk around outside with a staff; however, the guilty party must pay the injured person for any loss of time and see that the victim is completely healed.

Acts 14:5  There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them.

It seems obvious but assaulting others is not okay.  But if you look at ISIS and the Black Lives Matter groups, some say it’s okay.  In these cases they are murdering people.  But God says not to assault people either.  This is a reason for restitution.

Romans 10:9 “I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in my heart that God raised him from the dead, I am saved!  For it is believing you your heart that you are made right with God.”

If you believe Jesus is Lord.  Than trust and obey.  Do not be a slave to sin!

Enjoy your week and the music.

White as Snow Week 2 of the Sin Project

Nothing makes me sadder when we forget what Jesus went through for us.  We spit in His face just as the Romans did every time we are selfish and prideful.  When I think of Jesus dying for me I weep knowing that every lashing He took was a sin I committed against our Lord. I did that!!  But because He loves me He took the beating and was humiliated because He loves me and wants me to enter His Heavenly House when I am through with this cruel world.  He has a plan and a purpose for me and you.  And I know His ways are better than my ways, therefor I trust and obey because there is NO better way!

Sins 6-10

6. Afraid of people or circumstances- Psalm 112:7 They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

Being afraid is a sin!  If you are afraid and worry about anything you are committing a sin.  Remember that God is in control and He has already planned out your life. And do not be afraid of people or circumstances.  I am really good at dealing with this sin in this way. You will see in my further writing of this blog that fear controls a lot of other sin.  I truly am not afraid, at least most of the time.  My famous saying is “Don’t threaten me with a good time!”  Meaning so what is I die I get to go to Heaven!!  I am not afraid of death YEAH!!!

7. Afraid to confess Jesus to people–  John 42 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him.But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;12:42

If you believe Jesus is who He says he is and you do not openly acknowledge Him you are committing a sin.  I use to be very timid about my faith, but the more I know about God I really am not afraid of talking about Him.  Don’t worry about what others think about you and your beliefs.  Every time you acknowledge Jesus you are making Heaven happy.  Who cares about what others think.  You will not be here with them forever anyway just with those who go to Heaven where you will be with Jesus and so will other believers.

8.  Unjustified Anger- Proverbs 27:4 Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?   Proverbs 29:22 An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins.

I love Proverbs.  Anger is okay as long at it’s justified and under control.  But we should never be jealous.  If we are jealous we are breaking God’s 10th commandment, about coveting.  Coveting means to lust over or long for, and if you are coveting than you can start to get jealous and jealousy is sin.  Hot tempered people tend to do things without thinking, and often they are not happy.  This person tends to look for an argument or a reason to have what I like to call “drama”.

Exodus 6:9- So Moses told the people of Israel what the LORD had said, but they refused to listen anymore. They had become too discouraged by the brutality of their slavery.  2 Corinthaians 12:20 – For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.

Sometimes when things are not going my way and I get angry I then become discouraged.  God does not want us to give up or loose hope.  This is the sin of being discouraged which for me comes from my anger of not being able to control the situation.  Mostly this happens with my children, I do not find them the way I want them to be.  Anger comes from being afraid.  There are many times I have been angry about what I have found people doing and it’s because I am afraid. Why am I afraid at this point?  Because I forgot God is in control of everything.  That is why fear is something God does not want for us.  As you can see in 2 Corinthians that fear can lead to anger and when people are angry they can cause a lot of problems.  I am really working on this particular sin.  I do not want to have unjust anger.  I think it is important to remember that anger is okay, but it is not okay to sin in our anger especially if we are causing discord,  or having feelings of jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.  And in reality this all leads from fear!!  Remember God is in control.!!

9.  Angry with your brother Matthew 5:22  But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.

The old saying don’t got to bed angry with your spouse.  That true.  If you are angry with someone you are SUBJECT to judgment.  Call someone names is not okay we know this, but also we want to be sure our hearts are also free from anger.  God will judge us based on what is in the heart.  I found this below and thought this would sum up my thoughts about this 9th sin.

God sees what we are each made of. We judge by what we can see of a person’s actions; God evaluates the heart’s motivation. Some can act more moral by society’s standards because it is to their advantage to do so, but this behavior does not necessarily imply that their hearts are purer than those with less social incentive to behave morally. Although their options differ, most drug dealers operate on the same moral principle as the media networks, the junk food industry or, for that matter, some Christian publishers: “We just give people what they want; it’s not our fault if what they want isn’t what’s good for them.” This excuse does not absolve them of guilt, but the person with a straight track through college and into the work force has more incentive to choose a different path. Indeed, the intellectual elite in Western universities laid the groundwork for the sexual promiscuity that has destroyed family structures in many ghettos and made drugs popular as well has homosexuality.  God evaluates us not only by our deeds but also by our character-what we are made of when no one else sees us.

When dealing with those closest to us, such as a spouse, we must humble ourselves and seek the other person’s best interests in love (as in, for example, Eph 5:21-25; Keener 1992b:133-83).

10.  Anxious: Philippians 4:6 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in EVERY situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

God tells us not to be anxious!!  I am not saying counseling is bad, but we forget that we do not have to be anxious!  Yes I do get anxious sometimes.  But my sin is that I forget to pray!  I don’t ask, then I also forget to be thankful!  How much worry would you get rid of if you asked God and then remember to say thank you!  Thank you for what He has already done for you and thankful for what He will be doing for you.

Has I ponder these sins all of which I struggle with time to time I wonder if we would even need to have mental health counselors if we just did what God tells us to do.  And then I know the answer is yes because we live in a fallen

Enjoy the song!!

Saved but wanting to be as white as snow!

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”  Jesus did not come to get rid of the laws he came so that we can be made right with Him.  The laws also tell us how sinful we are and how much we need Jesus.

On my quest to be clean I have found a comprehensive list of all the sins of the Bible.  There are about 667 sins to look at.  On Mondays I will post 5 sins.  You can follow along with me is you would like to be closer to God.  It’s a good way to examine your heart and to build a deeper relationship with our Lord.

Here are the first 5 and the Bible verses to back them up

  1. Not acknowledging your iniquity.  I put this one first because it is a sin to not even acknowledge your a sinner and the sin you are committing.
    1. Jeremiah 3:13  Only acknowledge your guilt– you have rebelled against the LORD your God, you have scattered your favors to foreign gods under every spreading tree, and have not obeyed me,'” declares the LORD.

I have seen that is becoming a big problem in this country.  We want to get rid of our guilt. A nation that does not have quilt is a nation that is flirting with Hell.  Think about it? We want to legalize sin or justify it. Every time a pick up a magazine I see someone who is “coming out of the closet”.  “Black Lifes Matter” groups who are harvesting hate in their heart and are murdering.  In my field “Responsible Ohio”  a group who want to legalize pot.  Or getting rid of the stigma of drug abuse and addiction.  This is one I really feel we need to be careful with.  It’s OK to get help but our guilt should keep us from using in the first place.  And yes I have a hard time admitting my own guilt.  Especially when I have not controlled my anger or slander others.  I do need the Lord’s help and I want Him to search my heart to make me clean on the inside, the sins no one can see.

2. Abortion:  Exodus 21:22  and Jeremiah 1: 4-5

Exodus: “If men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she gives birth prematurely, yet there is no injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide.23“But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, 24eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

Can you imagine if we actually had these harsh punishments today?  We may not have so many people committing any violent crimes.  Like drunk driving.

Jeremiah 1:4-5

Now the word of the LORD came to me saying,

5“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
         And before you were born I consecrated you;
I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

If the Lord says we are valid in the womb.  Clearing abortion is not okay.

I have been forgiven for this sin twice.  Planned Parenthood took care of what I thought was my problem the first time and then the Hospital in Vermont the second time.  I did not even know I was committing this sin because our society says its okay.  Another example of how we have made sin legal freeing us from guilt, which makes us ask for forgiveness.  Guilt it a good thing!  I did not even have guilt about this until I started reading the Bible.

3.  Accusing: Jude 9  But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”   2 Peter 2:11 But the angels, who are far greater in power and strength, do not dare to bring from the Lord a charge of blasphemy against those supernatural beings.

Oh, my do I need to work on this one.  I am very quick to judge others.  I jump to conclusions with out facts.  And when I want to accuse I need to remember the Lord will be the judge not me.  I also need to beware of my heart and why.  But we are never to condemn some one to Hell.   Which is what I think this sin is really saying EVER!  That is God’s job.

Good Judging

Bad Judging

4.  Adultery: Matthew 18:18 Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness.”

  •  This also include lust in the heart.  Matthew 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
  •  Peter 2:14 They commit adultery with their eyes, and their desire for sin is never satisfied. They lure unstable people into sin, and they are well trained in greed. They live under God’s curse.
  • 22 If a man is found sleeping with another man’s wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.
  • Deuteronomy 22:22 Leviticus 20:10-12
  • 10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.11 And the man that lieth with his father’s wife hath uncovered his father’s nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

12 And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.

This is a huge one!  Pornography is the biggest.  Again another thing we have made legal so we don’t have to feel guilty.  You can not even stand in the line at the story with out seeing ungodly pictures.  So be careful little eyes what you see.  Pornography the Biggest Business in the World!!  Can you imagine how many families would be together is you would be put to death for committing adultery!  I know I would think twice.  Thank God we have His Grace and Forgiveness.  Because the wages of sin is death both spiritually and morally.  This sin has caused the most destruction in our society.  It tears families apart, trust is gone, many become poor, diseased, suicide, depression, and the list goes on.  If we want to help the cause of children then the family needs to be held as the up most important relationship in our earthly lives, you need to keep marriage holy.  Never defile your marriage by committing adultery.

5. Not abstaining from all appearance of evil: 1 Thessalonians 5:22 Stay away from every kind of evil.

To avoid the appearance of evil, or every form of evil, means to stay far away from evil. We need not become legalistic regarding what others may perceive to be evil. But we do need to remain cognizant of our witness to the world and of our duty to support fellow believers. We should also be aware of our own tendencies toward sin. Rather than flirting with what could lead us into sin, we avoid evil altogether. It is important not to judge others without first judging our own hearts and motives (Matthew 7:1-5). For instance, one pastor may be perfectly capable of drinking alcohol in moderation and therefore have no problem frequenting a bar. Another may be prone to alcoholism or drunkenness and should therefore avoid bar

This is why I do not drink any more.   I also do not buy store bought cookies because I would eat the entire package and gluteny is also a sin.  I also do not have cable TV because our family would watch it too much.  So know your sin.  If the internet is causing you to sin then stay off it. Sometimes I even need to take a break from Facebook because my heart started to feel bitter.  Know yourself and your sinful tendencies.
