The Danger with the Mennonite Church

I recently received a the Mennonite Central Committee’s publication.  I was very disturbed by what I saw.  Their mission is to feed and cloth the hungry and naked which is good, but it does not save people. Much of the publication was about working with the Muslims to live together in peace.  This is also good BUT non of this matters unless the Gospel is spread and people repent of their sins and as Jesus to be their Lord.

Psalms 122:3-4 Jerusalem is a well-built city; its seamless walls cannot be breached.  All the tribes of Israel-the Lords people-make their pilgrimage there.  They come to give thanks to the Lord, as the law requires of Israel.

Psalm 129:5-8 May all who hate Jerusalem be turned back in shameful defeat.  May they be as useless as grass on a rooftop, turning yellow when only half grown, ignored by the harvester, despised by the binder.  An may those who pass by refuse to give the this blessing: “The Lord bless you;we bless you in the Lords’s name.”

Israel is the Apple of God’s Eye.  We should never turn against it or be jealous of God’s chosen people.

I emailed MCC about my concerns and this is the response I got

I highlighted their calling.  I must say this is very disturbing.  Here is a quote from the Mennonite Central Committee

“We went over the next five days we were greeted with compassion. We saw acts of solidarity between people of various faiths and backgrounds. We saw hope, we saw resilience. We saw hardship and terrible loss. And we saw people really wanting to live.”

The goal is not solidarity.  Jesus said, “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”  Matthew 10:34

Jesus will judge the quick and the dead some day and will sort us all out according to our allegiance with Him.

For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! 1 Corinthians 9:16

In Thessalonians 2:15 Paul writes, “With all these things in mind, deer brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the teaching we passed on to you both in person and by letter.”  Clearly we are to hold tight to Paul’s teachings because they are of Jesus.  We are suppose to follow them as God has told us to.  So what if your church leadership is not following and sticking to the teachings set up for the New Church?  By the way we are still in the age of the New Church until Jesus comes back!

In Colossians Paul approaches false teaching that attempts to destroy the church.  Paul approaches heresy, empty rituals, useless asceticism, and false mysticism in a gentle and kind way.  Colossians 8:8  Don’t let any one capture you with empty philosophies and high sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and for spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.  In a sense we need to stick with scripture and keep it simple.

If your pastors are not keeping it simple, approach them in this way.  Colossians 3:12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must cloth yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive anyone who offends you.  Remember, this is for the church only!

Titus 3 9-11 says

Do not get involved in foolish discussions about spiritual pedigrees[a] or in quarrels and fights about obedience to Jewish laws. These things are useless and a waste of time. 10 If people are causing divisions among you, give a first and second warning. After that, have nothing more to do with them. 11 For people like that have turned away from the truth, and their own sins condemn them.

This passage is not saying that we should disobey the Law but not to argue about it.  Also notice that other practices can also divide a church.  We are to give two warnings then after this we are to have nothing to do with them.  For people like that have turned away from the truth, and their own sins condemn them.

2 Thessalonians 3:14  Take note of those who refuse to obey what we say in this letter.  Stay away fro them so they will be ashamed. Don’t think of them as enemies, but warn them as you would a brother or sister.

Correcting Another Believer

15 “If another believer[a] sins against you,[b] go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back. 16 But if you are unsuccessful, take one or two others with you and go back again, so that everything you say may be confirmed by two or three witnesses. 17 If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector.

18 “I tell you the truth, whatever you forbid[c] on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit[d] on earth will be permitted in heaven.

 

Notice there is warnings than we the true believers in truth are to have no part of their deeds.  We are to walk away and leave them up to their own demise.  We do this in hopes that they will repent and turn back to truth.  You are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

There are many verses in the Bible that speak to this, but we always leave false teachers behind and ask people to leave the church not because we are being unloving, but because they are not true believers and they need to examine their lives so that they may repent and come back to the Lord.

There are two ways.  Either ask a person to leave your church if you are in leadership or you must leave the church if the leadership is the false teacher.  You do this so they to can be saved.  If you stick around after confronting them you are just condoning their behavior and therefore you are also sinning by not removing yourself from the false teachings.

I never really thought much about vacation bible school until this year.  With all the Seeker Sensitive Churches, Emergent Churches, and all the new, sensitive, and fun ways people think they are getting the Good News out to children, is nothing short of “it’s all about me” theology.

In the new church I attend this is what our VBS theme is,  “All firefighters, prepare for duty! Join the staff at Station 316, where kids will be trained to extinguish the fires of their own sin, and also how to help rescue others from the fire!”

This theme truly what the entire Bible is about.  God’s Holiness, our wickedness and how our sin separates us from the Love of God.  It’s about making disciples and winning the lost to Christ.

Maker Fun Factory VBS

A world where curious kids become hands-on inventors who discover they’re lovingly crafted by God.

 

It’s all about how special you are and that God has these “big plans” for you.  What ever that means?  Not much about repentance or why Jesus had to die on the cross because we are condemned to Hell if we don’t come to the Lord.  This type of VBS is what I call ‘it’s all about me’ theology.  What is true is that God is special, awesome, the Great I am and he created us to glorify Him. God’s only ‘big plans’ for us is to save us from Hell and for us to make Him known.

Then you have LifeWay VBS that tries to teach the Trinity like this

Who was in the beginning?  God yes, but in Father, Son, and Holy Spirit explained this way…

Don’t just go to a VBS really check it out and see what is being taught.  It’s part of making true disciples of our children.  Vacation Bible School should really convict us for the need of a Savior and correct doctrine should be taught.

And Everyone Did What Was Right in Their Own Eyes

During the time Judges the Israelites did evil in the Lord’s site again and again, they forgot God rescued them from Egypt.  So God raised the Judges.  God was with the Judges and rescued the people from their enemies while that Judge was a live,  BUT when the judge died the people returned to their corrupt ways behaving even worse than before.  They worshiped other gods.  They refused to give up their own evil practices.

So God had compassion for the Israelites when they where being defeated by their enemies.  In this way (because of compassion) the Judges came.  Then God also burned with anger so he left the enemies in the land to test the Israelites.

God’s character NEVER changes just like back in the day of Judges, God has mercy on us all and loves us.  If we cry out to the Lord He will save us from our enemies.  We must humble ourselves before God, repent and be forgiven.

In many ways today Christians have forgotten our first love. Just like in the time of Judges we have forgotten that  God has saved us. We do this when we forget to judge rightly. More often than not we don’t want to seem judgmental so we just don’t say anything at all.  When en-fact Jesus tells us how to judge.  “Oh you are just being judgmental take the log our of your own eye first.”  Yes this is true but read the rest of Matthew 7.  When we are confronted we put up our dukes and start to defend ourselves.  When what we should be doing is search our hearts to see if what has been said is true.

We are supposed to judge everything according to God’s word!  While we have contact with this world, we are commanded to be set apart from it.  We are to avoid doing what the world does.  That was the problem with God’s people back then and still is the problem today.  You SAY you are saved by GRACE but you ACT like the WORLD.  When you do this people do not recognize you has a child of God.

What do I see all around me?

Unforgiving Christians is the first thing I see.  I know that people are upset with me and I understand it, but instead of coming to talk with me they ignore or gossip about me.  I know this because I have been told.  I stand behind someone in the store and they look and see it is me then “pretend” they do not see me.  I say “hi” then they say, “Oh I did not see you there.”  ????   Makes me wonder.

Or I see that Christians care more about indulging themselves in “Christian” like things.  Concerts, music, books, aroma therapies, yoga etc…. They think it’s ok because they bought it at a Christian book store or the person sings about Jesus so it’s ok.  When they NEVER look up to see what that famous person is really saying or doing when they are not performing.  I see Christian’s defending their churches because it’s their church!  Just because it says church does not mean it’s good.  We are the church.  Our bodies, minds, and hearts!  So keep them holy.

I hear people cussing and using the Lord’s name in vain.

Christian’s stay in churches with female leadership, when God forbids it.

Christians are going to see pagan movies like “The Shack”, “Beauty and the Beast”, or even “Cold Case for Christianity,” which is a good book, but did not care enough to look and see that Purflix is part of the NAR.  Or for that matter Christians do not know about false churches or movements such as NAR, Emergent, New Age, Seeker etc….

I see Christians on the social justice ban wagon.  They have taken a few verses to justify their believes.  They condone homosexuality and dismiss Israel.

Finally I see Christians consuming ungodly things in general.  I have never been to Walt Disney World and never will.  Did you know God forbids us to practice magic?  Or listen to pagan music, watch pagan TV shows.  Listen to pagan radio stations.

Remember how I said in the book of Judges every time a judge died they sinned even worse than before.  Judges 19:22-30  While they were enjoying themselves, a crowd of troublemakers from the town surrounded the house.  They began beating at the door and shouting to the old man, “Bring out the man who is staying with you so we can have sex with him.”

The old man stepped outside to talk to them.  “No, my brother, don’t do such an evil thing.  For this man is a guest in my house, and such a thing would be shameful.  Here, take my virgin daughter and this man’s concubine.  I will bring them out to you, and you can abuse them and do what ever you like.  But don’t do such a shameful thing to this man.”

But they wouldn’t listen to him.  So the Livite took hold of his concubine and pushed her out the door.  The men of the town abused her all night, taking turns raping her until morning.  Finally, at dawn they let her go.  At daybreak the women returned to the house where her husband was staying.  She collapsed a the door of the house and lay their until it was light.

While you are enjoying yourself you may find yourself in a sinful situation.  Satan will enter into your home, your mind, and then your heart.  Satan knows how to distract you, he knows your weaknesses.  So be on guard!  Fight the good fight!  Be a watchmen on the wall! Jesus will return!

 

 

 

Lessons from Egypt and Communism

I was reading in the Bible this morning about Egypt Chapter 1:8-22 .  It says this:

Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt. “Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become far too numerous for us. 10 Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.”

11 So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh.12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites 13 and worked them ruthlessly. 14 They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly.

15 The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, 16 “When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.” 17 The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live. 18 Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”

19 The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.”

20 So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. 21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.

22 Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.”

Looking back on Obama’s reign I realized that Obama was much like this new evil ruler of Egypt.  He new of nothing about God’s ways and looked at the American Christians and decided there are far too many of them and decided he was going to marginalize us and oppress us through his executive orders and policies.  In essence he said, “We must make a plan to keep them form growing even more.  If we don’t and if war breaks out, they will join our enemies and fight against us, they will escape from the country.”  Christians have joined with non-Christian Americans to fight against the oppressive Obama regime.  Christians were tired of losing their jobs, paying taxes for abortion services, and being forced to go along with an ideology that went against their beliefs.  The non- American Christian who was equality annoyed by Obama’s oppressive taxes on the rich and middle class, moving jobs away from America, the loss of liberty and freedom to let others believe what they wish, and the lies portrayed by the media joined forces with the Christian population against this tyranny.

What was the Egyptian’s response, they made the Israelites their slaves.  They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with crushing labor. The Egyptians worked the people with out mercy and made their lives bitter.

Obama made the Americans his slaves, and oppressed us by his continual policies.  Examples of this was the Affordable Care Act, making promises that everyone can keep their doctor and everyone would be able to afford health care.  And in order to be sure you pay for this oppressive healthcare he put a tax of $1200 if you did not buy into it, just to be sure you would.  Or his open boarder policies letting in millions of Muslims refuges with only a handful being of the Christian faith.  I have seen it was only 12 Christian Arabs that where let in to 200, but the numbers are still very small in comparison.  To make matters worse he allowed them to vote, gave them free welfare, healthcare, sanctioned cities, and free university tuition,  all off the backs of the hard working American people.  I am still paying for my tuition today of $40,000 it was $60,000 and still have not been able to get my degree because I don’t want to rack up more debt.  He also indoctrinated Communist and Marxist minded teaching in our universities and even in our own churches. This is just some of the ways he has oppressed our American people.   Allowing mosques to teach Sharia law and spread it’s hate to all Christians, Jews, women and gay people to which they teach are infidels, women are treated as not being worthy, as the scum of the earth.  This is how he has oppressed our people.

Then Pharaoh told the Hebrew mid wives to kill the boy babies to stop the growth of the Jews.  But they feared God and would not do it.  Why boy babies, because the are stronger then women and can fight back.  How did Obama participate in this?  Taxes payers once again where demanded to fund Planned Parent Hood!  They provide no prenatal care.  Not only did they fund abortions, but full term abortions and even killing babies after they were born.  All under the notion that a women has a right to her life but the baby does not.  The Muslim religion would also like to kill those who do not adhere to their ways and they have raped women so to produce offspring that would advance their race.  They used Planned Parent Hood as an “auto parts” store, except with babies body parts to make lots of money to one again advance their cause all in the name of “science”.  I believe we where very close to our government deciding who lives and who dies through this evil money making company. Pharaoh would eventually kill all living boy babies except Moses who God spared to delivered the Israelites out of Egypt.

Obama’s regime was indeed very oppressive, but God has sent us a “deliverer” in a sense that President Trump does not care about political correctness, he loves our country, with liberty and justice for all!  Not just the liberal minded communist.

But always remember Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  He will return some day and bring a New Heaven and a New Earth!

Don’t Blame Me, My Christian Friends, or My Children because You Take Your Life!

 

Proverbs 14:1-35 The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down. Whoever walks in uprightness fears the Lord, but he who is devious in his ways despises him. By the mouth of a fool comes a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise will preserve them. Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, but abundant crops come by the strength of the ox. A faithful witness does not lie, but a false witness breathes out lies. …

After all the rhetoric I listen too from the Extreme Left I find myself very troubled by the undertones and manipulation they are sending out to the American Public.

By no means do I hate any person ever, but I do hate sin and I also hate the Gaslighting, manipulating (someone) by psychological means into questioning their own sanity,  that has happened in our country.

Before 1973 homosexuality was removed as a mental health disorder.  The fact is that the suicide rate, drug addiction, depression, anxiety, obesity, sexually transmitted deceases, suicide rate is very high among the people who find themselves in this life style.  It’s around 47% depending where you get your sources.  This statistic has not changed much over the years even before it became so awesome to by gay (I remember when this meant happy).  Like wise the suicide rate and same issues are same for the transgender and other people suffering from gender identity or disorders.  This could also be said that people who suffer from addiction and anorexia also suffer with the same mental health issues.  Many times these people have experienced some traumatic event in their lives that makes them start to go down an unhealthy and destructive road.  Sometimes people just start to experiment with other genders (trying it on) to decide who might be a good “fit” for them.  You could also suffer from the same problems if you decide to “try on” drunkenness, gambling, pornography, shopping excessively, hording, working, eating lots of sugar, caffeine, pets, or what ever else you like to do to help you feel better about the bad day you just had.( I said pets because a 2 grader said her goal was to have 1000 cats and she thought this would be great as long as her dad took care of them…. I digress 🙂  I do know some people are just curious.   I also  know  if you practice an unhealthy lifestyle long enough it just becomes something you think is okay to do or at least you make peace with it.  Saying to yourself well I’m a good person in general I don’t see any problem with it.  Or for some of us we suffer from generational disorders and just except “this is the way my family is.”  Soon enough you actually think your sin is actually who you are.  This is very dangerous, keeping you stuck in your own sin here on earth, it’s a chain around your neck you think you could never break free from.

Okay so lets get to the problem.  I have been hearing celebrities and people suffering from these psychological problems start to blame Christians for the high suicide rate among people suffering from their sinful choices.  It is a very sick form of manipulation that I find very difficult to handle.  The mentality is, “If you don’t think my lifestyle is worth supporting there are many people who will commit suicide because YOU don’t support my lifestyle, making me feel so bad about my sin that I may not be able to live because YOU don’t except my choices.  Yes I do not think it’s a good choice to participate in anything sinful because of all the things that are mentioned above.  But they are trying to blame Christians for all their stinkin’ thinkin’.  The “If you don’t like me than I will kill myself, it’s your fault!”  This could be very devastating for our children and their psychological well being.  I had two friends.  One took his life and left a note to my other friend telling her that one of the reasons he took his life was because she didn’t like him.  How horrible for her!

I was listening to a transgender man on a radio interview who made a remark, “No wonder the suicide rate is so high when people like the Catholic hospital will not let us be who we are meant to be.”  This is sickeningly manipulative in my opinion.

These are just a few I have heard. This just breaks my heart.  We all suffer with our own demons, but to blame it on everyone else is very manipulative.  God loves all of us.  If you want peace repent of your sin ask the Lord to be the Lord of your life.  God is the ultimate Physician and Healer.  God is a good Father and he disciplines us as He sees fit.

I am asking that our children nor anyone else be the blame for someone taking their own lives.  That is not okay!

If you know anything about Spiritual Warfare Satan is having a great time deceiving all of us.  He is the master of manipulating. If you let evil take over your mind then you will be doomed!

I shutter to think about what our lives would have looked like at least for Christians who refuse to conform to this Evil World!  I think we would have found ourselves jobless, homeless, or in jail just for our beliefs. I think we could have been blamed and jailed for a suicide that was committed because we spoke the truth!  I praise the Lord that He has given us some reprieve from the road we where going down.  For know we have our freedoms and liberties.  But there will come a time we will not.  You will either need to wear the mark of the Beast or die.

James 5:15  And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Remember Jesus loves you and died your you on the cross!!! Repent and turn to Him.

No Time for Apathy and What Would Jesus Do?

Let’s face it the World is groaning under the weight of sin, especially our very own beautiful United States of America.  How did we get to this point?

Jeremiah 6:15 says this.   “Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when I punish them,” says the LORD.

Christians have once again ignored the small subtle signs of compromise and the chipping away of our culture.  We did not say anything when people where doing something wrong.  Why I wonder?  Was it because we didn’t care?  Did we think God would just work it all out?  Where we too caught up in our own selfishness to address things that are just wrong?  Or my suspicion if you are a little like me you didn’t want people to be upset with you and you just wanted to love people by keeping the peace. We have hoped that by just throwing up a prayer to God that everything would be ok?  Or did you think you would be ok that’s good enough?

Zachariah 8:17  Don’t scheme against each other. Stop your love of telling lies that you swear are the truth. I hate all these things, says the LORD.”  I would venture to say that if you don’t say anything at all that is the same as lying.  I am not sure why we would lie to someone or not let someone know that what they are doing is wrong especially if it’s going to effect their Salvation!

Dear Christians we need to speak up in this culture!  People are no longer blushing under their sin any more!  Their is a spiritual war going on in our country and some of us are asleep!

Someone said to me, “It seems like you do not tolerate any sin?”  WHAT!!???  Of coarse I don’t!  God is a Holy and Righteous God and we can not be in Heaven with him if we do not humble ourselves before Him and ask for His FORGIVENESS!  We ALL need to REPENT of our sin.  We have spent too much time with wishy washy theology!  There are people in our culture who honestly think if you have a gay marriage, or smoke pot, or get an abortion, or commit lust in your heart, or hate someone, or lie, or slander, or curse, get drunk, etc….  what ever it is then it’s acceptable!  No it all separates us from God!  The problem though is not our sin, it’s that we have no more shame about it.  No guilt nor remorse.  God says this, “You are neither hot nor cold you are warm I will spit you out for I do not even know you.”  If you don’t care about your sin and say this is just me  the Bible says this, “People may be right in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their heart.”  Proverbs 21:2

So how do we deal with people who are Anti God?  Jesus said this, “But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also.” Matthew 5:39.  (Please notice it does not promote not protecting yourself from someone trying to hurt you physically.  The Bible is very clear that we can protect ourselves if our lives are in danger.  This verse has to do more with insults.)

Jesus said this,

“Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.”  Matthew 7:6

So if you tell someone they are a sinner and what they are doing is wrong and that they need to be right with God in order to get to Heaven, they mock you and try to make you think your an idiot then do no waste your time with them.  They do not want to hear what you have to say.  This is where wisdom comes in handy.  There are also many proverbs about this.

Lastly, ” But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.”  Be sure dear Christian you do not call someone an idiot.  These are also Jesus’s words.  Jesus calls people other things like dogs, swine, hypocrites, blasphemer, fools, mockers, but he does not want us to insult someone by saying they are too stupid to understand.  Be careful your heart does not grow bitter to the unbelievers.  

Unity and Peace the New Deception

In our culture world unity and peace have become the focus of many nations.  There is not problem with the idea in and of it self, but for a Christian this evil deception has become the focus and the mission of some of our churches. We compromise what the Bible says in the name of unity.  The unity of the Bible has always been intended for believers not the unity of what the World is trying to achieve.

How are we compromising unity at all costs?  Here is a few examples; The Southern Baptist Convention is coming under fire for filing a legal document arguing for the construction of a mosque by an Islamic society in New Jersey.  While this may seem to be innocent at its face, the point that any Christian would help a mosque be built and to file a legal document for a Pagan Baal (Hell) worshiping goes against everything about what the Bible says is good.  This is a quote from Brent Walker, “It’s good when we can join hands with … folks we are sometimes on the other side of,” said Brent Walker, executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty.

The Bible says, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”  2 Corinthians 6:14  Even though we do have freedom of religion in this country and we have the right to worship how ever we please, Christians should never be promoting or helping any type of religion to develop their form of false religion.  I would dare say especially, such a religion that promotes murdering people in the name of their god Allah. It is something we should stay far away from!  What we should be doing with the Muslims is talking to them about as Jesus being the way the truth and the life, and no one gets to Heaven except through Him. And Jesus says this, “If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.” We talk to people about Jesus but we don’t force people to believe in Jesus.  

Another deception that is sweeping through our churches is the Emergent church.  What is the Emergent church?  The Emerging Church is a movement that claims to be Christian.  The term ‘Emerging Church’ is used to describe a broad, controversial movement that seeks to use culturally sensitive approaches to reach the postmodern, un-churched population with the Christian message.   Some Emerging Churches might use props such as candles, statues, and incense along with poems, open mics, and videos, etc.  EC services are sometimes extremely informal, while others are more formal.  (Matt Slick)

Emerging Church Characteristics

Following are some of the common traits I have discovered by reading through Emerging Church material.  But please understand that not all Emerging Churches adhere to all the points listed.

  1. An awareness of and attempt to reach those in the changing postmodern culture.
  2. An attempt to use technology, i.e., video, slide shows, internet.
  3. A broader approach to worship using candles, icons, images, sounds, smells, etc.
  4. An inclusive approach to various, sometimes contradictory belief systems.1
  5. An emphasis on experience and feelings over absolutes.
  6. Concentration on relationship-building over proclamation of the gospel.
  7. Shunning stale traditionalism in worship, church seating, music, etc.
  8. A de-emphasis on absolutes and doctrinal creeds
  9. A re-evaluation of the place of the Christian church in society.
  10. A re-examination of the Bible and its teachings.
  11. A re-evaluation of traditionally-held doctrines.
  12. A re-evaluation of the place of Christianity in the world (Matt Slick)

Here are some examples and starts:

The emerging church is a Christian movement of the late 20th and early 21st centuries that crosses a number of theological boundaries: participants are described as Protestant, post-Protestant, evangelical,[1] post-evangelical, liberal, post-liberal, conservative, post-conservative, anabaptist, reformed, charismatic, neocharismatic, and post-charismatic. Emerging churches can be found throughout the globe, predominantly in North America, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa. Some attend local independent churches or house churches[2][3][4] while others worship in traditional Christian denominations. Wikipedia

This is what the Apostle Paul says about this, “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.”  2 Timothy 4:3  These emergent churches purpose is the get people to come to a church building.  It is more about unity, peace, and love.  Just about everything is permissible to get people in their doors.  They seem to think popularity and filling up seats equals salvation.  The church is not for unbelievers although they are welcome to come and hear God’s word.  Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. The church is a place for believers to know and learn sound doctrine to grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ.  The Emergent Church argument is that the traditional church alienates people and turns away people from the church.  The Word of God does turn people away because they just don’t want to live the Christian life.  Jesus said,  “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.You do not want to leave too, do you? Jesus asked the Twelve.  The Gospel is not an easy “pill to swallow.”  And Christianity does not live up to the world standards of fun, but I can promise it will bring you TRUE  Joy and Peace!  🙂

What does Jesus say about Peace and Unity

1 Corinthians 1:10 I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.

Romans 12:18 says “As far as it depends on you, if it is possible, live at peace with all men.” God says that there are some people you can’t get along with. Jesus frequently did things that the Pharisees disapproved of. They were hard core legalistic. He went ahead and did them anyway because it wasn’t an issue of being a stumbling block, but rather an issue of having people who were simply impossible to please.

The church has taken these passages and made them their mission for unbelievers.  I believe you can still disagree and live peacefully among all men.  This does not mean you compromise what the Bible says.  Christians are not supposed to be legalistic about food, performing religious tasks, lacking true joy, bondage to religious traditions, little or no assurance of salvation, or unloving and critical towards others.  Please do not confuse legalism with obedience to God’s word either.

Jesus said some things about peace.  This is peace and unity for the believer, the individual, not a nation.

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Matthew 10:34

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

Luke 12:51

Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but division.

Revelation 6:4

Then another horse went forth. It was bright red, and its rider was granted permission to take peace from the earth and to make men slay one another. And he was given a great sword.

No, I am not forgetting that Jesus is the Prince of Peace.  But He never intended for the believer to pander or be disobedient to God’s word just for the sake of keeping the peace.  Think about all the immorality happening in our country from homosexuality to President Obama going against Israel.  Only if the Liberal left could make us think the way they want us to then there would be peace. I don’t know about you but my mind is captive to the Word of God not mere men.  As long as there is a Bible believing Christian around there will not be peace at least as the world should think it to be.

HE WILL RISE TO POWER THROUGH PEACE

The world will be looking for a leader and Satan will be quick to provide one.

The Antichrist will preach a message of peace. The prophet Daniel says that “he shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue” (Daniel 11:21).

Revelation 13:2 compares him to a leopard because he will rise to power very quickly. The verse goes on to say that his feet are like those of a bear, because of his fierce power and strength and his mouth is like that of a lion, because of his domination over the world.

If there is world peace this will be your sign of the Antichrist and people who do not know Jesus will be intrigued by Satan and follow him because he speaks and talks with power that looks like it will bring “peace”,  and he will make promises of a unified and peaceful world but it will be to trick you.  The Christian believer knows that Jesus is the Prince of Peace who lives in their hearts and no matter what the world promises we know it is a lie.

False Leaders and Teachers- Why Women Should Never Lead a Chruch

Satan is masterful at taking a blessing of God and turning it into something that brings a curse instead.  If given the chance, he’ll convince you to seek the pleasures of sex outside of marriage: to exchange the worship of the Creator for the worship of the creation; to substitute what is convenient for what is obedient.  The temptation will be cunning, the promise inviting.  But as Adam and Eve discovered, the painful consequences will far outweigh the temporary pleasures.  (NLT)

For many Christians, resisting temptation is difficult because they don’t want to discourage it completely.  God promised a way out…

1 Corinthians 10:13  – 13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (NLT)

In the beginning the Lord made man and he made women to be a helper. The woman is supposed to be the assistant coach.  The assistant coach gives advise, input and even teaches; to the family and church, but only under male leadership.  The woman is NEVER to be the head coach who makes the decisions for the team (family and church).  Man is to be the head coach to the family and church.  They are the spiritual leaders.  Women are to submit to their authority.  As a woman, we are to only be teaching and training if the man agrees it is godly and righteous.  Of course, if the man is not godly this is way more difficult, but women are still to be submissive to man’s authority.  (This is a whole different topic to address, and I will not do it in this post)

Think back to the beginning of time.  Eve is the one who listened to the serpent, she was convinced. (Genesis 3:6).  She saw that it was beautiful and it’s fruits look delicious and she wanted the wisdom it would give her.  She took the fruit and ate it.  Then she gave some to her husband who was with her and he ate it too!!

Dear sisters, are you eating from the “beautiful fruit” of false women teachers like Ann Voskamp, Lisa TerKeurst, Beth Moore, Joyce Meyer, or Sarah Young? (or anyone I did not mention)?   If you want to know if you are involved with a false teacher you can look them up and there are many articles about these women and their false teaching. (I will let you do this on your own if you truly wish to not be lead in the wrong direction).

Are you being tempted as Eve was?  And are you fooling your husband and your church to be involved with these women?  Maybe not on purpose, but I am sure you wish it was not true about these women.  They are hard to resist.  You may even dismiss what I say just because you appreciate their writings and teachings.  They speak to your heart.  They are friendly, kind, and humble.  But I say they are sinning and causing many others to sin.

Genesis 3:16   To the woman he said,“I will sharpen the pain of your pregnancy,  and in pain you will give birth.  And you will desire to control your husband, but he will rule over you.

Genesis 3:17 And to the man he said, “Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you.”

I hope you noticed what God said about us ladies.  We will desire to control our husband, but God also said HE WILL RULE  OVER YOU!  It seems to me no matter what we desire concerning our husbands they will rule over us no matter what.

Concerning the church, we ladies must also understand what scripture says about women and their role in the church.  I think that if we are to submit to our husbands that this does not mean it does not apply to women leading a church.  We still have to submit to their authority at church also, not just in the home.  I find it to be impossible for a female pastor leading a church to also be able to submit to her husband when she is leading him and other men in the the church.  It never adds up.

Apostle Paul says, “But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.”  1 Corinthians 11:3   Please be mindful that in scripture man can be used to mean everyone, but in this instance this means the male.

“Let a women learn quietly and submissively.  I do not permit a women to exercise authority over man; rather she is to remain silent.  for Adam was formed first, then Eve, and Adam was not deceived, but the women was deceived and became a transgressor.  Yet she will be saved through child bearing- IF they continue in faith and love and holiness with self control.  (the birth spoken of here is the birth of Jesus) 1 Timothy 2:11-15

1 Peter 3:7 (Even Peter had something to say about this) 7 “Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.”

There are four things these passages say about women.

  1. Women are easily deceived
  2. Women are the weaker partner
  3. Women need to submit to their husbands
  4. Men and women are equal heirs to the gracious gift of Jesus, eternal life.

And you know what…It’s okay.  We need to accept that as women we are the weaker in very many ways, but this weakness also makes our role so very important in this world.

Dear sisters this is no ancient writing that is for the church back then.  We need to realize that we are the weaker sex, but necessary for God’s great plans. (Look at Mary)

Women in general, like to base our beliefs about God and other’s around us on how they make us feel.  While we need to listen to our feeling we should always pay attention to them in the right context of our circumstances according to the Bible.  I don’t always “feel” close to God, but I know by reading God’s word that He still loves me.  And even if I am searching for the “why” would God allow this circumstance to happen, this never means that we don’t obey Gods’s commands, or what God want us to do as women.  I see some women in our churches who are so insecure or looking for anyone to speak to their hearts that they forget to use discernment about false teachers.

There are numerous verses about false teachers but I give you this one as the best example given to us by Peter (in my opinion)

2 Peter 2:2-3

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

These ,my dear sisters, are some warnings we should heed!

I think about the women pastors I know personally.  One of them was convinced that homosexuality is okay and gave me an entire book on it (United Church of Christ). She then deceived me for many years until I started to read my Bible.

Or another female church pastor who would rather not take a stand on the issue of homosexuality, but would rather talk about the posture we should take on this sin. A man who attends church under this women’s pastoral leadership dismisses the sin because he says  the prophets of the Old Testament did not believe in heaven anyway, so why do we get caught up with this sin.  I think to myself, “What is she teaching in this church!?”

Or when my 12 year old daughter, navigating her way through 7th grade, says a boy in her class is saying he is gay.  She says he tells the girls this but not the boys.  Why is this?  I know why, because girls care and through their caring they can be deceived.  It’s one of the things God has created us to be.. caring but if we are not careful we will be deceived.  (No I am not saying men are not caring, we just tend to be more nurturing).  A girl might say, “well if this is how you feel, just be yourself I guess.”  If we don’t say this then others may look at us as unloving and women love to be loved!

Or other women who I know and respect who just ignore their children’s sin because their acceptance of their children is way more important then their child’s eternity.  Yes we are to focus on what is good and righteous…and we need to have a serious talk with our children, wives, or husbands about their alcohol abuse, their homosexual lifestyle, their bad language, their refusal to lead their families, their pride, ungodly anger, their lust for other women (the “you can look, but don’t touch” mentality)  their love of money over God or family, etc…. whatever it maybe.  We ignore because we don’t know what to do or say.  Or we justify our apathy by not defending our faith with the It Will All Pan Out in The End Theory.  I am telling you God will judge us when we die and I wonder why we would never say anything to the people we love knowing that their eternity is at stake.

Ephesians 5:11-12 “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.  It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.”

My husband compromised Biblical teaching at the beginning of our marriage in order to show me how much he loves me. This is also not okay you can find what ever you want in the Bible to justify your sin.  Be careful of this.

I too have admitted and repented of being a temptress in seducing my husband, but the difference is that he was a Christian and I was not at the time.  For the longest time I was the head coach of our home and really I didn’t even let him be the assistant unless I thought it would get me what I wanted.  When this happens in a home or in a church this is what the hierarchy looks like.

1 Corinthians 14:33-35 for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. 34 Let the women keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but let them subject themselves, just as the Law also says. 35 And if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church.

I know that women will not like this.  They might reply that the women were uneducated back then. And yes they were, but when I read Genesis 3:16  HE WILL RULE OVER YOU. This was God saying this to Eve about her husband, I am okay with this.  It’s God’s plan from the beginning and we need to follow it or we are sinning.  I liked this quote from Denzel on our role as helper/assistant coach. We Ladies need to be the encourager for our husbands and believe in him.  This is our true role as assistance coach.  There are roles we can play in the church but this will be for another day. There are also Bible verses about Elders and Deacons that would go along with this, also for another day.  I would encourage you to look them up in your Bible.  To sum it up ladies we are not to speak over men in anyway. We are allowed to speak to them.  Hopefully you can see the difference.

Some of the last words in the Bible and a warning for all of us.  Revelation 22:18 “And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book.  And if anyone removes any of these words from this book of prophecy God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.”

My last suggestion is if you are participating in any false teaching stop and ask for forgiveness.  Do not pass your book along.  Burn it or throw it away!   Stop following these false teachers- men or women, no matter how beautiful the pictures are or how beautiful the writing is.  The Bible is very clear about the consequences of participating in sinful teachings.

Finally, pray for these women.  We may be able to pick up a book from them again, but only if they are truly teaching and writing the truth of God’s word. They also must repent from their sin. Pray for discernment and that you may be cleansed from any false teaching that has now captured your mind.  I hope you all experience God’s love in a way that is true today. God bless.
